Garage Door Project Change Order Checklist

Document a change to an approved garage door project with the reason, revised specification, affected cost or schedule, and clear authorization before work proceeds.

Identify the approved baseline

Start with the existing order or proposal reference and its revision date. Describe what is changing and why: a product substitution, a revised finish, additional work, or a changed site condition. Keep the unchanged portions of the project identifiable. A message saying “use the other option” is not a reliable specification when several options have been discussed.

Record all affected details together

Ask the provider to state the revised product or work description and any effect on price, delivery, installation, or work by other trades. Identify items that remain subject to confirmation. If the change affects the opening or equipment arrangement, obtain the appropriate professional review. Do not assume that a visually similar product is interchangeable with the original selection.

Confirm authorization and distribute the revision

Use the provider’s agreed authorization process and keep the accepted change with the original order. Make sure the installer and any affected project contact receive the current version. Clearly mark older drawings or selections as superseded in your project record. At handover, compare the completed work with the latest authorized scope rather than the first quotation.

Before you proceed

Is a verbal product substitution enough for the project record?

Ask for the exact revised product or work description and its effects in writing through the provider’s agreed process. Keep the accepted change with the original order. Give affected people the current version so the final work is assessed against the same scope.
