New Garage Door Handover Checklist

Use this handover checklist to organize your new garage door documentation, operating demonstration, supplied controls, and any outstanding installation items.

Compare the result with the order

Review the agreed door style, finish, window arrangement, and included accessories with the installer. Discuss visible concerns while both parties can refer to the same opening and paperwork. A homeowner’s appearance check does not replace a professional installation inspection. Ask the installer to explain any difference between the order and the completed work.

Request a model-specific demonstration

Ask for an explanation of normal operation, the supplied controls, and where to find the manufacturer’s instructions. Have the installer identify which maintenance and safety checks belong in those instructions and which work requires service. If you are uncertain about any procedure, ask for clarification before trying it independently.

Close the paperwork loop

Collect the invoice, available product identification, manuals, and written warranty information. List the remotes and other accessories actually supplied. Keep incomplete work separate from accepted items, with an agreed follow-up contact. Store access credentials securely and avoid including them in a shared installation photo album or general service record.

Installation handover record

Use these fields to turn the checklist into a record for your own project. Leave unconfirmed details marked unknown and take unresolved questions to the responsible provider.

Notes stay on this page and are not submitted or saved. Print before leaving to keep a copy. Do not enter passwords, entry codes, or payment information.

Before you proceed

Does a working remote mean the handover is complete?

Remote operation is only one item to confirm. Review the supplied equipment, operating explanation, relevant documents, and any unfinished work with the installer. A homeowner checklist does not replace the professional checks needed for the installed door system.
